Ingrid is trying really hard to talk. The things she says so far are:
"Awa" for water
"Buba" or sometimes even "Bubl" for bubbles which we blow for her while she is in her swing on the porch
"Huppa" for her beloved beaded hippo. More about that later.
"Mmmm" for the smell of food or the sight of the open fridge, or the mention of breakfast or lunch
and
"Uh-oh" when she drops something accidentally, or before she drops something on purpose (this is now a key component of the "mommy-fetch" game) She also said "uh-oh" early this evening when she heard, but did not see me drop a plate on the kitchen floor.
"Bye" just once today.
She also says something like Wuh-wuh-wuh for "Savannah", Renee's daughter, who is one of her favorite people. That is her only 3- syllable "word". Savannah was over today and was carrying Ingrid around. When Renee would reach for Ingrid, Ingrid would turn away and vocalize her displeasure. When Savannah had to leave the room to change out of her cheerleading outfit, Ingrid got really upset.
Last week Ingrid also figured out how to purse her lips and roll up her tongue to make a sucking sound. Yesterday she walked seven steps. She seems like she is trying to walk faster, rather than a greater distance.

March goes out like a tiger

Here's some March miscellany. Photos from Renee's cell phone, Ingrid enjoying my birthday card from CAA and her balloon from the shoe store. And Helen the tiger. Ingrid rides her, holding onto the sides of her head while Mike pulls them around the house using Helen's leash. I took advantage of an unusually warm day to break out the light blue jellyfish outfit. I adore it, but as you can see there is no way it is still going to fit this summer. I put another summer oufit on her - a stripey sleevelss mini-dress with duckies. It was like a corset. No pic, because it would have been cruel to leave her in it that long.
Ingrid wrapped up the month of March by taking 5 steps on March 30. She also says "Awa" for the agua in her sippy cup and in the bath tub.
Rocks Rock!

Ingrid has picked up my love of rocks. Or perhaps it is innate. I look forward to her sampling the yummy rocks in Good Harbor Bay. They are by far the tastiest. Not all dusty like New Mexico rocks. Please take note of her official, real shoes. We took her to the shoe store, where the shoe lady marveled at how strong she is and gave her a balloon, which was a big hit.
These pics are from March 20. I'm trying to catch up. Really.

Ingrid is 9 months old (March 14)
In honor of Ingrid's 9 month birthday, she got to ride around the yard in her new wagon, and hunt for bugs in the rock wall in front of our house. She tried to catch ants on the patio and to gnaw on the old motel chair Mike found in the arroyo behind the house. And no, I don't let Ingrid gnaw on the chair.
