Chitter Chatter

Ingrid is trying really hard to talk. The things she says so far are:

"Awa" for water
"Buba" or sometimes even "Bubl" for bubbles which we blow for her while she is in her swing on the porch
"Huppa" for her beloved beaded hippo. More about that later.
"Mmmm" for the smell of food or the sight of the open fridge, or the mention of breakfast or lunch
and
"Uh-oh" when she drops something accidentally, or before she drops something on purpose (this is now a key component of the "mommy-fetch" game) She also said "uh-oh" early this evening when she heard, but did not see me drop a plate on the kitchen floor.
"Bye" just once today.

She also says something like Wuh-wuh-wuh for "Savannah", Renee's daughter, who is one of her favorite people. That is her only 3- syllable "word". Savannah was over today and was carrying Ingrid around. When Renee would reach for Ingrid, Ingrid would turn away and vocalize her displeasure. When Savannah had to leave the room to change out of her cheerleading outfit, Ingrid got really upset.

Last week Ingrid also figured out how to purse her lips and roll up her tongue to make a sucking sound. Yesterday she walked seven steps. She seems like she is trying to walk faster, rather than a greater distance.

The language acquisition is so interesting, they really pick it up fast. Nate has all kind of toddler-ese add-ons, like "Ohhh, I don't think so!" and long "AAAhh yes!" emphasis added for any answer.

And Happy Birthday!
